MILITIA & VOLUNTEERS
The Militia RE Other Ranks wore the same uniform as the regulars. Their designation as Militia borne in white on the shoulder straps. Volunteer RE other ranks had the yellow and gold elements in white and silver.
The Helmet had white metal fixtures and helmet plate
Although other ranks did not wear grenades on the collar, the Cheshire (Railway) Volunteers wore a white metal steam engine on the collars.
Following the regulars, The Volunteers had white bands on their pillbox caps (Silver for Sergeants). Warrant Officers wore the same forage cap as the officers.
Volunteer bands generally wore the same tunic as the regulars with silver lace. They mostly wore the Full Dress Helmet. Although some bands wore the bearskin.
