UNIFORMS, ARMS & EQUIPMENT - FOOT GUARDS
Mounted Officers on parade wore a saddle cloth which was 2 ft by 3ft. Photographs show that the rear of the cloth was more pointed and slanted behind. For ranks of captain and above (Field Officers) It was dark blue with two lines of one inch gold lace on the edge. At the point of the rear were their rank badges in silver.
Lieutenants and below had a single bar of lace on the edge only. The saddle was the Hunting variety with brown leather wallets and bearskin covers.
