Gale and Polden Ltd. were printers and publishers of books and pamphlets on the British Armed Forces. They were most prominent from the mid eighteen eighties to the First World War. This series of post-cards was one of their most famous projects and utilised illustrations of two important military artists of the early 20th Century: Ernest Ibbetson and John McNeill, the latter serving in the Army in the Sudan and the Boer War.
