UNIFORMS OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE
At the Time of the Boer War
ABOUT THIS SERIES

These photographs were illustrations in a book of the South African War 1899-1902.  They were coloured photographs by a firm called Gregory and Company in 1902.  The images clearly show that the British Army was in a transitional stage. the juxtaposition of khaki clothing with the full dress clearly establishes the maxim "Scarlet into Khaki".
